IVO POGORELICH INAUGURATED JAÉN PIANO COMPETITION

— 10 April 2021

On April 08th, at Teatro Infanta Leonor in the city of Jaén, Spain, Maestro Ivo Pogorelich gave the inaugural concert of the 62nd piano competition “Memorial Rosa Sabater y Javier Alfonso”. On the programme were works by Frédéric Chopin and Maurice Ravel.

In a very positive review of the concert, music critic of Codalario music magazine, José Antonio Cantón, stressed that “Ivo Pogorelich makes his own creation transcending the author himself, showing his very high degree of individuation as a musician, sure of his approach and aware of the uniqueness that each musical moment of the work represents. Entering into an academic or analytical consideration of his interpretation would be banal given the artistic greatness of his particular vision…” He also thanked the organizers of the Premio Jaén “for the opportunity to have been able to enjoy one of the most unique pianists of the last four decades, possibly providing the most important opening recital in its history.”

After the performance, Maestro Pogorelich expressed a very positive impressions by organizing the concert and competition in these circumstances, wishing all the competitors good luck and success.
