To mark the 60th birthday of maestro Ivo Pogorelich, the Japanese state broadcaster NHK realised a feature-length documentary dedicated to the cult pianist. The documentary was filmed at the historical complex of the Buddhist temple Shōryaku-ji in the town of Nara which this year celebrates the 20th anniversary of its presence on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The interview with maestro Pogorelich was conducted by musicologist YuanPu Chiao.
During the intermezzos between the conversations about his artistic vews in the interior of the temple Shōryaku-ji, maestro Pogorelich performed the works by Joseph Haydn, Muzio Clementi, Frederic Chopin, Jan Sibelius and Sergei Rachmaninoff. These are the first videos made by Ivo Pogorelich, after his popular movies filmed in Italy and Germany in the late 1980s.
The documentary had its first airing on NHK TV at March 26, 2018.
